Andrew Cumming,
Match Secretary.
Pitreavie’s Centenary year is now upon us, and hopefully (subject to restrictions) we have a memorable year during 2022.
The club’s new Centenary logo was unveiled on Saturday 8th January as we unveiled the Centenary flag which now flies outside the clubhouse. It was nice to see so many members in attendance, and an article will appear in tomorrow’s Dunfermline Press about the unveiling of the flag by Club Captain Barry Hynd.
It has always been our intention to put down some form of permanent marker of our Centenary, and we continue to work towards that being a Clubhouse development project which would see us improve the front of the building and in doing so give us significantly more useable outside space.
The “Centenary Deck” would see a significant expansion of our balcony area and a bit of a facelift for the front of the Clubhouse. This is at planning stage just now, and hopefully we will be in a position to provide firmer detail on that very soon when we have refreshed quotes and planning approval.
The new first tee course information board that the club is looking at will also include some information on our Heritage, in celebrating our association with our famous course designer Dr. Alister Mackenzie and Andrew Carnegie(via the Carnegie Trust).
In addition to some changes to our fixture card to include some Centenary specific competition golf for members, we will also be looking to resurrect some team matches during 2022, and we will host the Fife Team Championship event at Pitreavie again. The plan is to accommodate all categories of playing members in the schedule that the Match Secretary is putting together.
The Centenary logo will be used on all winners & runners up glasses awarded in 2022, providing a great memento for the various recipients. We also hope to have Centenary glasses for members to purchase/order for those who want to do so.
The plan at this stage, and clearly dependent on us returning to a level of normality, is to hold a series of Centenary related dinners and/or social events throughout 2022, and to do so in a manner that allows all interested members the opportunity to be part of those celebrations.
It had been hoped that this would have included a January event, but Covid restrictions meant that we couldn’t do so. We are looking towards June to now hold these.
We continue to communicate with a number of other golf clubs who also celebrate a centenary in 2022, and do so with the intention of putting in place some level of reciprocal arrangements for the centenary Golf season and possibly beyond.
We now have one “official” Pitreavie Golf Club Centenary “logo” (as revealed on Saturday) that will be used across any merchandise/clothing that will be available during 2022 for members and guests alike. Possibilities include branded apparel (in conjunction with our Pro), a branded selection of wines, commemorative glasses, etc.
It is also the intention that there will be some form of complimentary Centenary memento given as a gift to all club members who renew this summer.
